
For the first time in many years, two Italian films received major plaudits. Three-time Cannes contender Paolo Sorrentino's (Consequences of Love; The Family Friend) latest effort, IL DIVO, was honored with the third place Jury Prize award, while first time competition contender Matteo Garrone's critically favored GOMORRAH (pictured, left) was adjudged as the Grand Prize winner. Both are politically themed films set in contemporary Italy.
